Materia Bioworks was founded by a team of Toronto-based engineers, scientists, and commercial leaders who spent over 7 years working together to scale bioplastic production from lab bench to industrial demo plant, collaborating with Fortune 500 partners across packaging, food & beverage, and pharma. Through co-developing multiple commercial bioplastic products, we experienced the biggest barriers to adoption firsthand: fragmented supply chains, long R&D cycles, and costly scale-up challenges. These weren’t isolated issues — they were industry-wide.

We launched Materia to change that. Our mission is to streamline the path from idea to scalable sustainable product. We partner with brands, manufacturers, and innovators to turn next-gen materials into real-world products faster, smarter, and at scale.
