One exciting project AI Innovate shared with us is their real-time surface inspection project. This project combines computational materials science and Big Data analysis to create a comprehensive digital twin of the aluminum strip casting process. This technology addresses two major challenges faced by current continuous aluminium sheet and plate production: defect detection and unplanned downtime. The project employs integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) and deep learning (DL) algorithms to model the process and automatically detect and classify defects in real-time, eliminating the need for trial-and-error adjustments. Simultaneously, it optimizes the process by providing feedback to the operational equipment, enabling the plant to run at optimum conditions and predict faulty production. This innovative solution aligns with the requirements of Industry 4.0 and enhances efficiency and productivity in aluminum strip production casting lines. The application of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, coupled with data from embedded sensors, optical and thermal images, and a simulation module, ensures accurate and rapid optimization of high-speed continuous production lines across various industries.
